ASTM A653 is the standard for galvanized steel coils. ASTM A653 PPGI uses galvanized steel coils that comply with the ASTM A653/A653M standard as the substrate. These coils undergo chemical pretreatment, primer application, and topcoat application in sequence on a continuous color-coating production line, followed by in-line curing and winding.

The zinc layer beneath the paint coating on ASTM A653 PPGI steel coils provides dual protection: it isolates the steel substrate from moisture, and provides cathodic protection in the event of accidental scratches to the paint surface. The topcoat system determines the material’s weather resistance, color retention, and gloss retention. We can supply full coils, slit coils, and cut-to-length flat sheets.

Specifications

Substrate & Steel Grades

The base material conforms to ASTM A653/A653M — Standard Specification for Steel Sheet, Zinc-Coated (Galvanized) by the Hot-Dip Process. Available grades cover the full range from simple forming to structural load-bearing applications:

• CS Type A / B (Commercial Steel)— general-purpose grade for roofing, cladding, and light fabrication. Mostwidely specified.
• FS Type A / B (Forming Steel)— for parts requiring tighter bends and deeper draws.
• DDS (Deep Drawing Steel)— for complex forming such as door panels and appliance casings.
• SS Grade 340 / 400 / 550 (Structural Steel)— load-bearing grades for structural panels and purlins.

Zinc coating mass runs from G40 (Z120, 120 g/m² total both sides) up to G90 (Z275, 275 g/m²). G60 (Z180) is the standard choice for exterior building panels in most climates; G90 is recommended for coastal or high-humidity regions.

ASTM A653 PPGI Applications

• Roofing and Wall Cladding: Can be processed into color-coated roofing panels with various cross-sections for use in industrial plants, agricultural greenhouses, commercial buildings, and sports venues.
• Used as facing sheets for sandwich panels, such as PUR/PIR/EPS metal-insulated sandwich panels, for cold storage facilities and cleanrooms.
• Door Panels: Used to manufacture garage doors, roll-up doors, industrial overhead doors, and door and window frames.
• Home Appliance Industry: Casing for home appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, and water heaters.
• Transportation Industry: Truck side panels, trailer panels, container outer panels, and bus roof panels.
• Other Applications: Steel furniture, shelving, electrical cabinets and switchgear, billboards, signage, and decorative ceiling panels.

PPGI Packaging and Delivery

Standard export packaging is designed for ocean shipping. Each roll is wrapped in waterproof kraft paper and PE film, secured with steel straps, and placed on a wooden pallet. When loading into 20-foot or 40-foot containers, use wooden padding and corner protectors to prevent shifting during transport. Custom packaging is also available upon request.

• Roll Outer Diameter: Maximum 1500 mm
• Roll Weight: 3 – 8 tons (commonly 3-5 tons)
• Delivery Time: 15 – 25 days after receiving advance payment for standard specifications
• Payment Terms: 30% deposit by wire transfer, 70% payment upon receipt of copy of bill of lading.

What should you keep in mind when making a purchase?

For buyers, if the ASTM A653 PPGI steel is intended for building roofing and wall projects, the key is to confirm the thickness, G60/G90 coating, paint type, coating thickness, and color. If stamping, bending, or other processing is required, the steel grade and formability need further confirmation.

Purchasing ASTM A653 PPGI products cannot be based solely on the standard name. The steel grade, coating weight, and coating system determine whether the product will ultimately match the actual usage environment.
